Funding Summary

FOCC on average provides support for 55 to 70 funding requests from all of the NIH Institutes for an average of $65,000 to $70,000 annually. Requests from families of pediatric patients make up between 25% to 45% of the recipients and requests from adult patients make up 55% to 75% of the recipients. many of these adult patients support children and other family members. These percentages and amounts vary from year to year depending on need. This is just a sample of our funding from a past year....

The majority of requests were for assistance with housing expenses, i.e., rent and mortgage payments. Transportation requests included airline tickets and payments towards auto loans, insurance, and repairs. Medical expenses include assistance with insurance premiums and other medical-related expenses. Other includes expenses for storage, shipping personal items, wheelchairs and non-medical aid.

Activities and Events


  • Annual Premiere Night at Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, held in March raised $5,000 for FOCC and brought over 3,000 children from area hospitals and social service organizations to the circus free.

  • The Annual Mark Moseley Celebrity Golf Tournament, held in June , raises $100,000 for NIH Charities Special Love and FOCC. FOCC accepted a check for $50,000 at GE’s Washington Offices in October.
  • FOCC held it's third annual Golf tournament oat Montgomery Country Club. Special thanks go out to our many sponsors who helped raise over $20,000 for our charity!  

  • The Comcast Film Festival, held in August attracts approximately 8,000 attendees over the course of five evenings, and raises approximately $5,000 for FOCC.

  • The second annual Beer and Beef Roast for Patrick will be held on August 21, 2011 and will benefit FOCC. Last years event raised over $6,500.

  • For the seventh consecutive year, the NIH Charities received the proceeds from Bethesda Arts Row, an art festival in downtown Bethesda featuring artist from around the world. The NIH Charities shared money raised at a silent auction of art donated by artist and by a “hands-on art booth” for children.

  • FOCC participated in many of the Fall 2010 CFC campaign events at the NIH.
  • FOCC combined efforts with Special Love and held its first annual Harvest of Love Celebration at the Bethesda Marriott at Pooks Hill. The event was a fun evening for all and raised over $5000 for the two charitiesFOCC, with the help of the R&W Association, held it's Annual Holiday Bazaar in November. The event raised $3,000.
  • FOCC, along with Special Love and the R&W Association, hosted a Holiday Gift Wrap booth at White Flint Mall, raising $7,500 for FOCC and $1,500 for Special Love.
